Out of the Cold
Despite popular belief, homelessness can affect anyone regardless of age, ethnicity, or status. It is not just a problem affecting drug users or alcoholics, but anyone can face poverty and homelessness during difficult financial hardships, especially during the pandemic. Mosaic Interfaith Out of the Cold aims to help individuals who have lost their homes or who are at risk of losing their homes by providing emergency housing, clothing, meals, shower facilities, medical care, or just a compassionate ear.
Mosaic Interfaith Out of the Cold is a program that coordinates emergency housing for youth, men, and women experiencing homelessness in York Region 7 nights a week during the coldest months of the year (November to March) at 12 host community sites. For 7 nights each week, between 50-75 men, women, and youth are served a sit-down meal, provided with clean clothes, shower facilities, medical care, entertainment such as movies and music, and overnight accommodation.
Align with the 'A Cup of Water' vision which is to extend our blessings to others, we will partner with one of the sites in Richmond Hill on one December Saturday to provide a hot meal and a backpack filled with winter gear, such as a heat-tech shirt and pant, hat, scarf, gloves, winter boots and a Tim Hortons gift card. How do we start? We can't do anything without the support of the church family. The 'Cup of Water' committee will be volunteering on site to serve the meal and provide music. RHCBC families can have options to donate money for either a meal, backpack, shirt, pant, hat, scarf, gloves, boots, gift card or any of the combination.
